No, for two reasons: 1) the definition measure for mete is considered language from long ago (a.k.a. archaic) and the modern definition has more to do with measuring out, as in punishment or distribution of goods; and 2) more explanation is needed for how a substance necessary for life is suddenly described as harmful to living beings.
