love for the lurkers

I was just looking something up on the course blog when I noticed--to my great surprise, at nearly 1 AM Sunday morning-- there are nine other visitors.  On the odd chance those visitors are students, you have a chance to claim 100 points of Project Infinity credit by commenting to this post before 10 AM PDT Sunday (6.3) with a brief explanation of your favorite literary quote of all time.  If you're a visitor but not a student, comment with a quote anyway.  You'll receive double the credit; of course, it won't do you any direct good, but it will give students a reason to comment in an effort to impress you--and if they do, you can reward them with a portion or all of your points.

  1. Well I've been up putting my team's blog together and I had the brilliant idea of checking the blog. Just my luck!

My all time favorite quote is: "Don't let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game."
    -A Cinderella Story

I think that this quote is very inspiring because there are plenty of people that aren't confident and let that stop them from doing what they love. Being afraid doesn't allow people to express themselves or be who they truly are.

  2. "Courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. It's knowing you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. "

This quote is spoken by Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird. His character says many wise quotes throughout the novel but this is by far my favorite. The fact that he acts on this quote by defending Tom in court makes its delivery more powerful. This quote gave a new meaning to courage from me. Courage is doing omething even when you know you will fail.

  3. Is this literary quote too? I have chosen a bible verse.

"And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will recieve what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, will receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened"
    (Luke 11:9-10)

This is my favorite one because if you keep do whatever you gottado to make it happen without giving up, it will happen. Don't give up, then soon your reward will come. Like when you pray, don't give up, it just takes time to be done, keep try.

  4. My favorite quote has always been:
"Pain is weakness leaving the body."
I first heard this quote from my 7th grade basketball coach. This quote basically inpsired me to always keep going and never quit. Because of this quote I always push myself beyond my limits regardless of the obstacles and pain that are in the way. I personally believe it has made me a stronger person both physically and mentally.

  5. This summer I saw a different quote everyday by Johm Wooden and they were all inspiring, but this one really stuck with me: "Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts."
I find this quote so inspiring because he is reminding you that being successful isn't everything, and when you fail it isn't the end of the world. We all succeed at times and we all fail at times, but it's not about the result of your action, it's about having the courage to try no matter what the result may be.

  6. “I am an expression of the divine, just like a peach is, just like a fish is. I have a right to be this way...I can't apologize for that, nor can I change it, nor do I want to... We will never have to be other than who we are in order to be successful...We realize that we are as ourselves unlimited and our experiences valid. It is for the rest of the world to recognize this, if they choose.”
― Alice Walker, The Color Purple

This quote has much significance to me because we all have those moments when we may doubt ourselves. But it's those moments that, when overcomed, make you a greater person full of strength. Which allows you to go on about the world as who you are and not what others want you to be.

  7. My favorite literary quote would be "When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it’s not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end."

It's inspiring to me because there are many good things that happen in our lives, but there's always a time when they come to an end. The main thing is that you should be happy that something good happens to you, not grieve about it because it will do no good.

  8. “You - you alone will have the stars as no one else has them...In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night...You - only you - will have stars that can laugh.”
― Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry, El Principito

This quote reminds me that you have to learn to enjoy the moment even if its just for a minute with that one special person. Its not always about stress and worries. Enjoy life and learn to laugh.

    1. Julia the quote that you chose was really good. It made a lot of sense and the way you interpret it was done well. It's true that at times we get so caught up on all we have to do and forget what is most important. For example, like you said, to spend time with that special someone.
If Doctor Preston allows it, would you be kind enough to share your points with the Scrapbook 2.0 team?
      Thank you.

  9. Damn, I missed it. I'll comment anyway- it's always nice to share I guess.

"When I was five years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life."
    -John Lennon.

I absolutely LOVE this quote. This is just a great way to think about life, and this is always my way of thinking whenever I make any big decisions.

  11. This post was the perfect inspiring pick-me-up after a chain of difficult events!
Just to share, one of my favoruite quotes is "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things unseen." This is a Bible verse, but I dont remember the chapter haha. I love this quote because it shows that you can always have hope that things are going to workout, and you are never at the end of your rope.

  12. I just wanted to add to it, because I really love my favorite quote (it's by Oscar Wilde, and can I suggest that everyone check him out because he has some of the most quotable works of literature ever, plus he's amazing himself.)

"People are afraid of themselves, nowadays. They have forgotten the highest of all duties, the duty that one owes to oneself. Of course they are charitable. They feed the hungry, and clothe the beggar. But their own souls starve, and are naked." - Oscar Wilde

    and then:

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." - Oscar Wilde

I love both quotes because they talk about self-worth and overcoming the obstacles in life that we are born into and have to surpass.
