    bravado: a real or pretended display of courage or boldness

    consensus: general or widespread agreement among all the members of a group

    constrict: narrow

    dichotomy: a separation into two divisions that differ widely from or contradict each other

    effusive: giving or involving an extravagant and sometimes excessive expression of feelings in speech or writing

    euphoria: a feeling of great joy, excitement, or well-being

    gothic: of medieval architectural style

    impasse: a point at which no further progress can be made or agreement reached

    lugubrious: extremely mournful, sad, or gloomy

    metamorphosis: a complete or marked change of physical form, structure, or substance

    mystique: a special quality or air that makes somebody or something appear mysterious, powerful, or desirable

    non sequitur: a statement that appears unrelated to a statement that it follows

    parlous: very unsafe, uncertain, or difficult
