August 24

JOURNAL TOPIC: [today's tunes: "Celluloid Heroes" by The Kinks, "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" by Warren Zevon, and --depending on time-- "Heroes" by David Bowie]

What does it mean to be a hero? How are heroes depicted in modern movies and literature? How do you think these portrayals are different from classic and ancient ideas of heroes?

AGENDA:
1. Journal
2. Discuss yesterday's experiment/readings on concentration
3. Heroes in literature

HW:
1. Begin reading here; read the first section of the modern text (Prologue-Chapter X) and take reading notes

  6. Don't know why you could and others can't, Wafle, but please read the version in the textbook so that everyone's on the "same page"-- and, if you (or anyone else) wants extra credit, I'm offering: read the online chapters and compare/contrast the two versions in one page or less.

  7. ummm...Dr. Preston I have my textbook at school and decided not bring home extra weight since we had decided to read the online version. I am going to read the online version and read what I can from the textbook during school. Sound good?
